HAH - Help At Home - Mar Menor
Helping To Make A Difference
There are a number of differences between everyday life in England and here in Spain. One of the more noticeable is the absence of non-medical after-care here following accident or illness. In Spain this support is normally provided by the family, but most Ex-Pats only have a partner here and, in many cases, live alone.
In and around the Los Alcazares and Mar Menor area HAH (Help At Home) - Mar Menor can help. Our volunteers can visit people, free of charge, in their own homes to provide help and support with shopping or company. We do not provide medical advice or assistance. Should we need to involve a professional, for example a chiropodist or a physiotherapist, in certain circumstances we may pay their bill.
We can help with shopping or hospital visits if only one partner can drive, and that partner is temporarily out of action. We also have a wide range of mobility aids we loan out free of charge to anyone in need, whether they are a resident or simply visiting the area. These aids include walkers, wheelchairs, commodes, shower or bath seats etc. However, due to the high demand for the free of charge use of our mobility equipment, it has become necessary to restrict the loan period to a maximum of 6 months; it may be possible to increase this time limit in exceptional circumstances.
On the third Friday of each month we hold a meeting called Chatters, which gives anyone who wishes to attend the opportunity to make new friends and listen to interesting and informative speakers. We make no charge for this. All the funds to finance the above come from our own fundraising activities and the generosity of our donors and sponsors.
If you, or someone you know, would like our help, please ask them to contact us. Our Care Line number is 634 302 211.
If you would like to become a Volunteer, please join us at one of our monthly volunteer meetings. These are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 11am in the Las Claras Centre in Los Narejos. Come and find out more about us and what we do, even if you only have an occasional couple of hours to spare, you will be made very welcome.
